Hasanat
by MAISHA M.
I kneel down at the end of the prayer. I say, “Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil 'akhirati hasanatan waqina 'azaaban-nar,” before my dua, the last part of praying. In Islam, dua is the act of supplication.
“Please protect me, my partner, and our families from Covid. Please protect my friends, their families, and anyone else suffering from Covid. I know this is a hard time right now for everyone and I hope to send charity to people that need it most during this time. I hope to see my friends soon and be able to go out again. I don’t know when it will end but when it does I hope to see everyone again. I wish relief for families in poverty and I hope they are supplied with enough aid. Most importantly, protect my grandparents who are sick right now, and keep them from harm. I hope the number of Covid cases decreases and life goes back to normal again. Also, please help me get a good grade on my next history exam for McBride. Shukria. Thank You.”
I get up, fold my prayer mat, leave it on my chair, go back to my room, do homework, and wait until the next prayer.
