President Biden Making Great Progress in Ending the Pandemic
by TATAYNA L.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, the whole world got shut down and Americans were looking to their leaders for guidance. In 2020, former President Trump knew of the coronavirus before the world was shut down, however he failed to take any action in the early months due to the scientists not having solutions to the problems being described to him. When his aides were confronted about the president being informed about the rising cases of corona, they seemed shocked. Not only did he hide these talks with his personal team, he chose to downplay the coronavirus, when in fact it was a fast spreading virus. This was one of many moments that caused some Americans to distrust the former president. I was already distrustful of former president Trump and when he downplayed the coronavirus I had believed that the virus would go away within a few days. We were all gravely mistaken.
Not only did Trump mislead the American people about the severity of the coronavirus, while in the midst of the pandemic he insisted on schools and college football to reopen, knowing the risks that were involved. In July of 2020 a study was conducted that showed more than 95,000 children tested positive for Covid-19 for the last two weeks of July. Personally I was worried to go to school in the fall of 2020, due to the rising cases in the country as well as the city of New York. Trump decided to ignore the facts the scientists around him gave and provided the public with misinformation. Trump also didn’t treat the pandemic as his number one priority, instead he focused on defunding his political enemy states, such as New York, while the coronavirus cases continued to skyrocket. Defunding the state of New York would only cause more fuel to the fire, risking more lives. Trump was careless in his actions as president and he caused uproar in the country.
Since President Biden came into office, his handling of the pandemic has been the complete opposite of former president Trump’s. Previously Trump had been seen, holding large gatherings and meetings mask-less in and around the White House despite the CDC’s guidelines. Biden has not been the same, in fact he has required people wear masks, social distancing and those close to him to get vaccinated. By putting the Covid-19 pandemic as his mandatory priority, he was able to surpass the goal he set of distributing 100 million vaccine doses within his first 100 days. Since the changes put forth by the Biden administration, I am able to trust the people who run this country even more and be able to know that their administration is giving he American people true facts. More Americans, including myself, feel proud to have made such progress since the pandemic, due to the relentless efforts of the new administration.
